"Trio
Tulsa Debut Magnificent" headlined the Tulsa Tribune
in its review of Trio Tulsa's inaugural concert on January
30, 1987. Trio Tulsa, composed of University of Tulsa faculty
members Maureen O'Boyle, violinist, Diane Bucchianeri,
cellist, and Anna Norberg, pianist, has received regional,
national, and international acclaim during its sixteen
year history.
Trio Tulsa's recording of the newly discovered Piano Trio
in G by Claude Debussy was first aired on National Public
Radio's Performance Today program in 1988. The Trio's performance
of the Clara Schumann Piano Trio Opus 17 was aired in March,
1988 as part of National Public Radio's celebration of
National Women's History Month.
In May, 1990, Trio Tulsa won the prestigious David Bruce
Smith National Competition and was selected to become Artistic
Ambassadors for the United States Information Agency. For
this achievement, the Trio was honored and performed in
concert at the National Museum of Women in the Arts, Washington,
D.C.
As Artistic Ambassadors, Trio Tulsa toured the Caribbean,
Mexico, Guatemala, Chile, Eastern Africa, Mauritius, and
the Persian Gulf. It was hailed as a "Trio of extraordinary
talent" and as "one of the foremost chamber groups
of the United States."
The ensemble gave the first cultural performances in the
Persian Gulf region after Desert Storm in 1991, performing
in the Gulf States of Oman, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, the
United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Jordan, and Kuwait. The "superb
combination" was praised for performances that "brought
sweet nectar for the spirit" to the war torn area.
In 1994, Trio Tulsa was invited to participate in the
International Music Festival in San Jose, Costa Rica. The
Trio was praised for its "absolute dominion over technique
and passion for music." In 1995, the ensemble performed
throughout Venezuela and Mexico.
In 1997, Trio Tulsa was invited to perform with the Czech
National Symphony in Prague. While in the Czech Republic,
it presented a concert in the city of Czesky Krumlov, the
first cultural exchange between the American Embassy and
the government of Czesky Krumlov.
For the past fifteen years, Trio Tulsa has received grants
for the State Arts Council of Oklahoma to participate in
the Oklahoma Touring Program. These grants have enabled
the Trio to give concerts and present school programs throughout
the State.
On the roster of the Mid-America Arts Alliance, the Trio
has performed extensively in the Midwest, presenting concerts
and master classes in Missouri, Arkansas, Kansas, Nebraska,
Illinois, New Mexico, and Texas.
Trio Tulsa's repertoire spans the entire piano trio literature,
with special empahsis is given to works by women composers,
past and present. The Trio participated in the 2001 International
Festival of Women Composers in Indiana, Pennsylvania. To
further its goal of promoting works by contemporary women
composers, Trio Tulsa commissioned a piano trio from Gwyneth
Walker. This composition, A Vision
of Hills. was premiered
at the University of Tulsa in February, 2003.
A CD of works by Bohuslav Martinu, including the Concertino
for Piano Trio and String Orchestra, recorded in Prague
with the Czech National Symphony, was released on the Centaur
label (CRC 2415) in 1999. The CD and the Trio's performance
was praised in the Strad magazine.
Trio Tulsa performs the Trio Romantico on a CD of Works
by Mexican composer, Manual Ponce for the ASV-Koch lable.
